The Academy of Honey
The apiarist’s trail in Godziecin
Godzecin is a small village surrounded by lush forests. Beyond the beautiful areas, the village hides many sites attractive to tourists. These include a historic park and palace, a court and manor buildings, as well as its half-timbered church. There is also a farm, which keeps bees and produces natural honey. And that is exactly what we want to offer you.
The basic task of the apiarist’s trail is the protection of endangered wild pollinators and plants whose natural habitats are disappearing due to the formation of large agricultural farms, as well as changes in construction and urban planning. The second goal is to improve the bee population among local beekeepers. The main goal is, however, to raise apicultural awareness among children, adolescents and adults. The owners will talk about the life of bees, the history of traditional bee keeping and about how bees communicate. They will give participants a beekeeper’s outfit, present hives and an apiary where you can see bees in their natural environment. You will see how insects collect honey, where the queen produces eggs, from which the drone, the worker or the queen come out. A very important element of the apiarist’s trail is also provided by plants, without which insects cannot live. On the trail, we will see protected plants, such as guelder-rose, snowdrop, spring snowflake, hepaticas, yellow water lily, honeysuckle, and many more. We will also see trees and shrubs common in our region, which are useful for insects as pollen carriers (birch, hazel, sumac, chestnut), nectar producers (lime, Robinia pseudoacacia, Robinia viscosa and moss robinia), providing honeydew and ingredients for propolis (oaks, maples, larches, pines), and many in more ways. At the very end of the sightseeing, you will enjoy the tasting of various honey spices, including meads.
The academy of honey and bees
This academy can be organized in two ways. In the first option we get together on bicycles, go through the nearby forests, get to the destination, visit the apiary and try delicious honeys, and then go back to Kuraszkow. The second, less demanding option is to organize the transport and return by our bus.
